Eddie Murphy confirmed that Shrek is officially coming back for a fifth movie. He’s already started recording his lines as Donkey, our favorite loudmouthed talking mule. But wait, there’s more! There will also be a Donkey solo film!
This news isn’t entirely surprising. Back in 2023, there were rumors about Shrek 5 with the original cast and a Donkey spin-off. Murphy seems to confirm these plans, revealing he’s already recorded part of Shrek 5 which is expected for a 2025 release, with the Donkey movie to follow.
The Shrek franchise is a huge deal. The first movie launched DreamWorks Animation into the big leagues, winning the first-ever Oscar for Best Animated Feature and grossing nearly half a billion dollars worldwide. Shrek 2 was even more successful, both critically acclaimed and commercially dominant. So, it’s no wonder they’re bringing everyone’s favorite green ogre back for another adventure (and giving Donkey his own chance to shine)!
